Gallery 1: Wounded Knee, Pictures of Native American Indians

The Battle of Wounded Knee, December 29, 1890: While disarming the Sioux Indians, a shot was fired. The soldiers massacred about two hundred Indian men, women and children. This was the last battle between Sioux Indians and white men on the Northern Great Plains.

These pictures of Native American Indians were taken at Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota, from 1964 to 1974 by photographer, Joel Strasser.
